Russia is known as Rahmon's closest strategic ally

Rahmon, who met with visiting Admiral William Fallon, commander of the U.S. military's Central Command, expressed satisfaction with Tajikistan's military cooperation with the United States, saying his country will continue to strengthen ties with Washington, Tajikistan's Khovar news agency reported.

Fallon said the United States is grateful to Tajikistan for supporting NATO forces in Afghanistan and expects further fruitful cooperation.

A French air force contingent has been deployed in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, since 2001 to provide technical and logistic support for French forces operating in Afghanistan.

The United States is Tajikistan's largest aid supplier. More than 60 percent of the aid it received last year came from the United States.
