ALMATY, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) - Tajik Foreign Minister Kamrokhon Zarifi said on Monday that Russia's March 2 presidential elections will not affect bilateral relations, Tajikistan's Huovar news agency reported from the capital Dushanbe.

As one of the top priorities in Tajikistan's foreign policy, Russia has been and will remain a main strategic and trade partner, as shown by energy cooperation between the two countries, Zarifi told a press conference in Dushanbe.

According to statistics released by Tajikistan, Russia is the Central Asian country's biggest trade partner. In 2007, bilateral trade hit 857 million U.S. dollars, up 75.2 percent from the previous year, representing 21.8 percent of Tajikistan's foreign trade. Tajikistan's imports and exports reached 759.7 million and 97.3 million dollars respectively.
